Misty Cope » Bio

Hi everyone!  I'm Misty Cope.  This is my twenty first year teaching.  My first five years I taught first grade at Estill Elementary School.  I learned so much about myself and teaching during these years.  Being a Wade Hampton High School graduate I was excited to continue my career in Hampton School District One!  For the past fifteen years I have taught third and fourth grade ELA and Social Studies, served as Master Teacher, Instructional Coach, and Reading Coach.  This year I will continue to serve as Reading Coach.  I love working with the teachers in my building as we strive to improve our instructional practices daily.  I will also begin a new adventure as a Reading Recovery teacher.  Reading Recovery is a research based one-on-one intervention program that targets first graders.  I am passionate about teaching children to become fluent independent readers as it opens the doors to a world of opportunities.
I received my Bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina - Aiken in December of 1999.  In 2004, I completed my Master's degree in Creative Arts in Learning from Lesley University.  My passion for teaching reading led me to continue my education as I completed my second Master's in Language & Literacy from the University of South Carolina in 2011.  I am currently completing my Reading Recovery training through Clemson University.  I consider myself a lifelong learner!
